Shady Records Info:
Eminem, the founder and CEO of Shady Records was granted his own label through Interscope Records following the enormous success of his album The Marshall Mathers LP. Em's agent Paul Rosenberg is also President of Shady Records. Shady Records HQ is in New York, although it is mostly known as a Detroit based label. The label was mainly setup for the purpose of signing rap group D-12. The six-person group, which includes Eminem has since succeeded in multi-platinum album sales. Eminem released the movie 8 Mile and its soundtrack under Shady Records as well as his latest two albums, The Eminem Show and Encore, with Aftermath/Interscope. D-12's first album dropped titled 'Devils Night', which contained a freestyle by the 2nd Shady Records singed artist, Obie Trice. Detroit rapper Obie Trice was next to sign to Shady Records after his underground single "The Well Known Asshole" was brought to Em's attention. His album 'Cheers' was released by Shady Records and has been certified platinum. The second album '2nd Rounds On Me' is due in 2006. Shady Records most successful artist is 50 Cent, who is jointly signed to Shady Records and Aftermath Records, the record label owned by Eminem's mentor Dr Dre. Since his switch to Shady/Aftermath 50 cent has become one of todays biggest rap stars. Next to sign up was Stat Quo in 2003, again under Shady Records and Aftermath. He gained critical acclaim for his release of the Underground Atlanta Mixtape. His debut album Statlanta is slated for release in 2006. Bobby Creekwater was the second south artist to sign to Shady Records. The album entitled 'Bobby Creek' will be released soon. |
